Homegrown star shot putter Jaida Ross is now in her second year competing for Oregon Track Club after meritorious careers at North Medford High School and the UO. Jaida holds the Collegiate Record in the shot put (20.01/65-7 3/4), finished 4th at the 2024 Paris Olympic Summer Games, and is the sixth-longest thrower in American history (as of 11 May 2026) with 20.13/66-0 1/2 throw at the 2025 Prefontaine Classic.
As a UO freshman, Jaida was 4th at the Pac-12 championships, where she threw a PR 54-3 1/4, an almost 1-1/2-foot improvement of her previous best – a whopping 6’0 jump just the year before.
As a sophomore, Jaida finished 2nd (shot) and 3rd (discus) for 14 team points to lead the Ducks to the Pac-12 team championship. At her first NCAA Championships, Ross finished 5th with another lifetime best (58-6). She replicated those accomplishments in her junior year at the Pac-12s and NCAAs.
Jaida started the 2024 season as runner-up in the NCAA Indoors, before sweeping Pac-12 shot put and discus titles and winning the NCAA Outdoor. At the Olympic Trials, she finished 3rd, making Team USA for Paris, where she finished 4th as the top American.
With indoor collegiate eligibility remaining in 2025, Jaida was runner-up indoors at the Big-10s and NCAAs, then embarking on her first post-collegiate season with Ducks’ throws coach Brian Blutreich. After her PR at the Pre meet, Jaida finished 4th at the USATF Nationals and then 8th at the World Championships in Tokyo.
